As a rule for us, at least 50% of all profits goes to the artist.
Take for example our CD releases, which are generally £10 each. £5 of that goes straight to the artist, while we use the other £5 for our costs, and anything left goes straight into reinvesting; such as buying more stock or putting on a show.
While the amount varies per product, once we take out the costs, the artist takes home the vast majority of what you spend.

0%. Nothing. Nada.
Everything an artist writes, be it lyrical, musical or artistic, is owned by them 100%. When we release an album, we license those recordings from the artist; as part of our agreement, the artist maintains 100% of the rights to their songs and their recordings. We simply license the album to be pressed onto physical mediums for the artist to then take home their cut of the sales.
When we record with an artist ourselves, be it live or in the studio, we maintain some rights to the recordings alone - not the songs or lyrics. We usually record with no charge to the artist at all, so this is simply for when an artist makes it big and signs with a bigger label; we then have some negotiations to make with that label for repressing what we’ve recorded.

Our CDs and Cassettes are made in-house using former music industry machines; including CD printers from duplication facilities and cassette duplicators straight out of Sony’s offices! We pair that with our industrial laser printer to give our releases a professional edge. While we are very much DIY in our process, we also want to make the absolute best products for our artists, so we’ve invested a lot to make sure each release looks professional, personal and fantastic!
Our t-shirts, patches and other non-musical offerings are printed by our friends at the Crafty Cove in Whitby. These guys are true masters at their craft, and we love that they are another young business wanting to make a change in the world. We can’t thank them enough for all their hard work and support, so check out their offerings on their website, as well as all of our Yellowbelly Records artist merch on our store!
