A Lincolnshire and Yorkshire based four piece, DiMaggio Jones were formed in 2017 by two friends, Joe Devlin (JD) from Lincoln, Lincolnshire, and Joe Flynn (JF) from Sheffield, Yorkshire. Legend has it that JD was working on a solo project when he came across JF via a video on the net at the start of 2016. “He was perfect for the project” quoted JD and, after reaching out to JF, thus came the beginning of DiMaggio Jones. The last two members, Hugh Boyd and Ed Skipworth, later arrived on the scene, after hearing an otherworldly call to create tantalising music of awesomeness.
The DiMaggio Jones sound is a unique mixture of electronic indie dream pop mixed with a twang and edge of rock n roll. The boys are all multi-instrumentalists and like to change things up as much as they can. They take on board a whole heap of different musical interests, from late 80s radio pop and atmospheric synths, to pop punk and heavy metal, and these interests are masterfully interwoven into every fabric of their songs. The harmonies between Joseph Flynn and Joe Devlin are tight, the basslines from Ed Skipworth are sexy, and the drumbeats from Hugh Boyd bring everything together wonderfully.
All in all, DiMaggio Jones are a sound which has been carefully mastered to beautiful effect; they are a band who make music for the neon-lighted dreams of beat fuelled dancefloors, well mixed cocktails, and silk-curtain dancers hanging from the beams.
Sadly, DiMaggio Jones came to an end in April 2022, with the releases of the Lonely Boys Mixtape and the Lockdown Sessions online.
